Neo Thobela
- I am Neo Thobela, from a small town in Mpumalanga, Standerton. I had no clue what computer science was or what it took for one to become a programmer in high school ,i passed my matric and i had no where to go so I went to UL on registration day and found out that computer science is the only course available, but because I didn’t want to sit at home so enrolled and the rest is history . I didn’t have any intention of completing the degree I was going to switch the following year and do something else, but i found myself enjoying it.
- i was excited .The fact that i was gonna learn a skill like programming in a working eniromment, it was the beginning of a lot of things it was like a new chapter has opened up in my life , from student to being employed as a programmer.
- To get exposed to the working world of tech, getting to learn how to create real applications that will be used by other people, to enhance my coding skills and my logical thinking as well .But my main expectations to was to be proficient in coding and get employed as a programmer
- yes, and more because i learnt a lot of life lessons too that i didnt know i needed to grow as a person.
- i learnt how to code and work under real pressure, my work ethic has also changed ,perseverance and public speaking as i am very reserved but i was exposed in situations that required me to get out of my comfort zone.
- the teachers where very patient with us as we were learning a new language and adapting to life after varsity. they training was structured given the time that was given if with the time constrains . they started every topic with basics , so we understand the foundation of everything first before we jump into complex stuff. We learned a lot in a very short period of time
- they where patient with us and understanding to our different struggles they where alway there for help, the provided us with an enivronment that was comfortable for asking questions and taught us how this industy requires you to be a real team player ,they also helped us with adapting to changes that comes with the cooperate life. they pushed us to do our best at all times and the fact that they belived in us, even though sometimes i felt like i personally was bad at this or i dont have what it takes to be a programmer.
- Right now i am still discovering myself in the industry and where i fit in this broad world of tech.I am going to continue to upskilling myself and growing as a developer, i’d also like to broaden my skills and do UI/UX design. Tech is growing really fast and theres always something new , there are a lot of problems that can be solved throught tech and i see myself solving some of those problems in the future.
